Today

We welcome Mark Diller Harder, Pastor at St. Jacobs Mennonite Church who is sharing his gifts of preaching and music.  Mark is the brother to Kendall Jongejan Harder who served as Interim Pastor along with his wife Charleen at HMC in the summer of 2006.

 

As part of connecting with the larger church community the Essex cluster pastors decided to invite guests to speak in all of our congregations this morning.  Irma Fast Dueck is speaking at Fatih MC, Rebecca Yoder Neufeld at LUMC, Muriel Bechtel at Windsor, and David Martin at NLUMC.

 

12:30 – 3:00 pm: MCEC Cluster Youth Event at Faith MC.  Youth will be having lunch with Irma Fast Dueck, a professor from Canadian Mennonite University and she will be talking with them about baptism and what it means to be a member of the church.

Wednesday, 11:30 am – 12:30 pm:  Loonie Lunches at the Harrow United Church. 

Friday, 7:30 pm: Tai Chi.  Beginners and experienced persons are always welcome.

Theme:  Celebrating 2008

Everyone is welcome to participate in our Annual Meeting activities which will begin with celebrating 2008 during our worship service. There will not be Study Hour activities for any age group! A slide presentation marking many of our activities will be shown.  A fellowship meal will follow worship – soup will be provided.  You only need to bring desserts to share!  More details and explanation for this day are on a green sheet in your mailbox! More copies are available in the foyer. Year end reports are in your mail box as well.  Note that all people, members and non-members, are welcome and encouraged to attend and participate!

 

Announcements

Thanks to the hard work of many volunteers and the healthy appetite of our friends, neighbours, and community the apple pie fundraiser sold 519 pies and made $3,357.36 profit.

 

The Annual Leamington Meat Canner Fundrasing Luncheon

hosted by Leamington Meat Canner Committee on Sunday, February 1st, 2009 at the United Mennonite Educational Institute (U.M.E.I.) from 11:30am - 2:00pm The cost is $5.00 (Any donation over the cost of the meal will be receipted upon request)Menu:Turkey Chili, Borsht, Turkey Turnovers (Fleisch Perishky), Buns, Dessert, Juice, Coffee and Tea.

UMEI Thank You

Thanks to all who attended UMEI’s January fundraising lunch.  We had an excellent turnout, despite the cold weather.  $8,304.00 was contributed in support of UMEI.  Thanks again for your generous support.  Please mark March 8 on your calendar for our next fundraising meal. 

 

Essex-Kent Mennonite Historical Association presents “Super Soup Night”, January 24th at 5:30 p.m. at UMEI.  Plan to attend this fun filled evening.  We will have 12 kinds of soup for you to try along with homemade buns/bread and “pie by the yard” with ice cream for dessert.  Light entertainment will follow the meal.  Come out and bring a friend.  Admission by donation

 

Upcoming UMEI Events

·         UMEI Information Tour – February 4 - 7:30 pm.  This is an opportunity for parents and students to find out more about UMEI Christian High School.

·         February 11 – Zwiebach.  Call UMEI at 519-326-7448 to order your zwiebach.   

·         Lightning Live at UMEI - February 27.  Grade 8 students are invited to spend a day at UMEI and shadow students to get a taste of what UMEI is like.

Volunteers Needed

An invitation is extended to volunteers who are interested in spending 30-45 minutes on Thursday evenings inviting and accompanying Retirement Home residents to Worship Service (6:15 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.) during the chapel renovation period.  If you are interested in serving the needs of others in this way, please contact Linda Tiessen or Maureen Myers at (519) 326-6109.
